Tackling the World’s Toughest Challenges

Material science is not easy. But neither is improving lives. At CNG, we embrace the difficult. We take the path less traveled and face problems others think impossible to build a better tomorrow. A tomorrow with less food waste and more full bellies. A tomorrow where the air is clean and the water is safe to swim in. A tomorrow where everyone earns their fair share and can enjoy the fruits of their own labor.

And we don’t mind if the road to tomorrow is hard. Because our people are innovators and we invest in industry-leading equipment that keeps powering us forward. Our team has been carefully crafted over five decades to bring out the best and brightest. And our values keep us steering straight ahead for the benefit of all.

Setting the Standards for
Operational Excellence

CNG leverages material science to engineer, design, and produce high-quality specialty films and products built for durability and resilience. Our specialty films offer a complete range of blown and cast solutions that help our customers meet and exceed their sustainability goals, while also enhancing the lives of their customers.

We are a specialty film manufacturer with world-class manufacturing assets. We have every capability necessary to design custom-tailored films and advanced material solutions that meet the most demanding requirements for quality and performance across a wide variety of end-use applications.

Our products and solutions form an integral part of the packaging materials used for food, personal care items, and medical products. They are also used as critical components in roofing, flooring, automotive seats, floor liners, and a broad range of manufactured goods.

We actively solve problems and create films that conform to complex specifications making us a trusted partner of choice and a one-stop shop for any company that requires high-quality film in their production and distribution processes. It’s not just material science. It’s material science that enhances lives.

Challenge 1

Can we cut our emissions in half?

Our planet’s climate is changing, and corporations’ greenhouse gasses are playing a substantial role in rising temperatures. So how do we try to stop it? We set up a plan and we stick to it.

In 2022, CNG began submitting its carbon footprint to the Carbon Disclosure Project. This organization analyzes a company’s carbon portfolio and allows us to monitor progress as we work to halve ours. We then established short-term and long-term goals to compare ourselves against our past performance.

In 2023, we validated our climate commitments by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

  • Customers: We received more than 250 pre-qualification letters from the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s How2Recycle label, enhancing our market leadership in sustainable packaging solutions.
  • People: We strengthened our Employee Ownership Program and launched TrustPlus, a financial counseling initiative, affirming our commitment to employee wellbeing.
  • Planet: We validated our climate commitments by the SBTi and advanced our zero-waste-to-landfill efforts, with seven facilities having achieved this status.
  • Communities: Contributed approximately $525,000 to local communities, further strengthening our commitment to meaningful, locally-driven causes for our employee owners.

By 2030, we plan to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% and scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 52%.

By 2050, those numbers will be 90% and 97% respectively.

The path forward is clear. Now we are walking it.

Challenge 2

Can we stop using landfills?

Landfills contaminate water and contribute to greenhouse gasses. CNG is committed to ending landfill use.

We collaborate with many industry partners and organizations.

We then transitioned our suite of film products to fully recyclable formats. In 2023, approximately 86% of our specialty films were recyclable right off the production line.

Finally, we committed our research teams to develop more solutions like our award-winning GreenArrow™ product line that cut down on waste and minimize landfill use.

In 2023, seven of our ten locations achieved our goal of zero waste-to-landfill.

Landfills aren’t gone yet, but we are working toward a future where they aren’t needed.

Challenge 3

Can we all own our work?

Income inequality has been a growing problem for the past half-century. CNG is tackling that problem by placing the means of ownership into our employees’ hands.

In 2021, we transitioned from a private company solely owned by a board of directors to sharing ownership with all employees. Every CNG employee has a monetary stake in the business and benefits when the company does well.

This transition helped shrink the ever-growing gap between our income classes, and allows employees to invest for the future and build generational wealth through CNG.

At CNG, every job is valuable. And with our employee ownership program, that value is exponential.
